There is so much to tell you about this home, as every aspect of the design has been thought through in great detail. There is a space for every activity and a place for every object. The home was commissioned and built by our design company to showcase our expertise in design, detail, planning and workmanship. During the course of this project we exceeded our own expectations in delivering a superior architectural home.
The brief was to maximize our investment in the 750m2 site and produce a home that would best serve a family with 3 children and a satellite architectural studio. The brief also demanded that the home showcased our unique style of design and stimulated other home owners into stepping outside the usual combinations of methods and materials we commonly see. Great design creates great value and when investing in a new home it seems only natural to create something interesting that reflects all aspects of personality and lifestyle.
I really cannot tell you enough about the fundamental level of success this home possesses. I believe the key to this level of success was spending the time to define a detailed brief that satisfied and maximized our hopes and dreams. From there we had the relatively simple task of finding the best solution to the design equation… kind of like mathematics.

This home was designed for a couple with open plan country living and guest accommodation in mind. The upper two floors have been specifically designed to meet our clients’ needs while the lower floor contains the guest accommodation. Each floor has access to its own private outdoor areas and careful planning was required to maintain views of Mount Maunganui over a nearby shelterbelt. The slope of the section was also considered to reduce the costs of retaining walls and site work.
The use of Linea Board and Zincalume claddings has been bridged with a stone veneer on the mid floor decks and columns. This house compliments the site and its assets while perfectly matching our clients brief. The result is a stunning yet functional home.
This home was specifically designed on a very steep, challenging site in the Saint Marks subdivision, Tauranga. The brief was to provide a family home with plenty of living spaces to serve a growing family.
There is a block basement cut into the site containing a guest suite & stand alone parking, entry, double garage, office and laundry. The upper floor is constructed mainly of Plasta Brick over timber framing and contains the open plan living areas, formal lounge, master suite, bedrooms, decks and sheltered courtyard.
The use of the stacker bond masonry blocks and cedar slats over ply was incorporated to help define the individual architectural features. This also helps to provide some variation in texture and color while staying true to the brief of producing a modern, durable architectural home. The cantilevered glass balustrade adds an element of transparency and reflection to round off the design’s appeal.
This home was designed and documented for Ultimate Homes in The Lakes, Tauriko. This is another fundamentally successful home right next to the Creative Space Show Home that follows a similar methodology of design.
The brief was to create a sophisticated home that would appeal to owners with a more traditional yet individual look and feel. The home functions fantastically with the road shut off by the garage, entry and formal lounge creating a beautifully private oasis out back. The design has solved a prevailing wind issue and has opened every area of the home up to direct sunlight with its winged layout. The home is very warm by default and easily ventilated to control temperatures.

This home was saved from a lifetime of dark brown brick veneer and a featureless road front perspective. The owners wanted some “wow” factor in a traditional classic style and that is exactly what they got!
The three existing dormers to the road front were altered to become full external walls with French doors accessing internal spaces. We then added a balcony and some feature columns to complete the structural changes. These features were then dressed with some discrete detail in the plaster work and finished with a one-off wrought iron balustrade.
The living areas were improved and the kitchen was fully re-designed to compliment the new look. Large doors were then added to create the all important indoor outdoor flow into the large back yard. With the addition of a fully functional outdoor room complete with a built in BBQ and an open fire the project was completed. This home underwent an amazing transformation on a very limited budget, testament to what can be achieved with a little creative thought.
This home was designed and documented free of charge for the Bay Health Foundation and Project Hope. The project was initiated by Len Gilbert during his fight against cancer in an effort to provide future patients with a facility to care for them. Len has now passed, but his vision of a stand alone facility has come to fruition with the completion of the Western Bay District Cancer Centre in October 2008.
The home was built with each professional and trade donating their products and services free of charge. The property was then auctioned on completion with the proceeds going into the fund to build the cancer centre.
The brief was to design a high impact modern home to represent the cause on a site donated by The Thorne Group. The site was relatively steep so we cut a basement and bedroom wing into the slope and positioned a second floor over top. We then created large covered decks off each side of the second floor, opening up the views into the adjacent valley.
This home was well overdue for a facelift and with its prime location on Oceanbeach Road, Mount Maunganui it was always going to happen. The clients were ready to reinvest and we had the perfect vision to breath life into the existing home.
To reduce the renovation costs as much as possible the existing home was analyzed structurally. We then created a concept that best utilized the existing load bearing walls and point loads. The opportunity was then taken to eliminate the “risk” from the existing design from a weatherproofing point of view. This was largely achieved by creating a simple roof structure with eaves and modifying the decks to be totally external from the floor below. The result is a very clean, low maintenance, functional home.
This home was designed and built to promote the St Marks subdivision in Tauranga. The design was to focus on family, privacy and lifestyle with open plan living in mind. All of these requirements were achieved with a very creative result.
The house has a fabulous central courtyard linking all living areas and bedrooms to one another. This courtyard creates an outdoor room that is sheltered from the prevailing winds providing a cool place to relax in the summer. The living areas are open plan and create an observation point to keep track of what is happening in the various wings of the house. This is a very successful design indeed.
